WMS Wood Show Builds Steam

Bill Esler  |   October 28, 2011

click image to zoom TORONTO - At the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo here, the second-day is seeing a bump in floor traffic as wood industry professionals fill the aisles to get product, supply, service and technology insights delivered directly by exhibitors.

For example: First-time exhibitor Cameron Oldershaw of North Shore Finishers, Barrie, ON, has had a chance to present his firm's approach to outsourced wood finishing services. "We can do short runs or longer runs," he says. "We do anything that is finishing-related."

North Shore has added roll coaters and sanders, including Venjakob equipment, to make the finishing process for even one-off cabinet installation projects as consistent as a long-run factory job.

"We're also looking at adding new technology," Oldershaw says, placing him in the unique position of being both an exhibitor and an prospective equipment buyer at WMS.

Dave Skinner, owner of We Do Closets near Toronto, is manning the Association of Closet & Storage Professionals booth at the show. But he has been taking a break periodically to  accompany a colleague as he shops the show for an edgebander.

"The show has been great because we can do feature by feature comparisons," Skinner says. After looking at several edgebanders, he and his colleague backtracked with added questions on specs and features for the various edgebander offerings at the show.

The WMS Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo runs through Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Toronto Direct Energy Center.
