LIGNA in the Limelight at Wood Tech Summit
TORONTO --A taste of LIGNA, the world's largest woodworking event, was served on the second day of the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Fair (WMS).
"LIGNA Hannover: Technology for Today and Tomorrow" was presented as part of Wood Tech Summit, a free interactive presentation of the show. Andreas Gruber, Director of Strategic Marketing, Deutsche Messe AG, provided highlights of the internationally famous show before an audience of North American woodworkers and suppliers keen on learning more about what makes LIGNA the industry's premier event.
Gruber's presentation included jaw-dropping numbers from 2011 LIGNA May 29-June 3 at the Hannover Fairgrounds. Among them:
- More than 90,000 visitors, including a 26% increase of foreign attendees;
- 1,765 exhibiting companies representing 52 nations;
- Approximately 130,000 net square meters of exhbit space; and
- State-of-the industry presentations on lightweight construction, surface finishing and bioenergy from wood.
Gruber could only hint at plans for the next LIGNA, which is actively in the planning stages. The show is set for May 6-10, 2013. Learn more at LIGNA.de.
The LIGNA presentation was sandwiched between a session on Woodworking Software Trends held during WMS on Thursday and one on Social Media Marketing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Ocober 29, the finial day of the show.
In addition to the three presentations listed above, 20-20 Technologies and Blum Canada will present "Technology That Fits: Software Solutions for Cabinetmakers" at the Wood Tech Summit stage.
